Neema, from Tanzania

Neema is six years old and is in Standard 1 at Naitolya Primary School in northern Tanzania.

Neema’s father died a few years back and her mother Sophia supports her four children by collecting and selling charcoal. They used to farm the land around their house but now the land is too dry.

Neema’s mother worries about the lack of water, but her priority is still for Neema and all her children to go to school, so that they can be independent and help her in her old age.

The ‘Transforming Education for Girls Project’ is run by CAPP in Nigeria and Maarifa ni Ufunguo in Tanzania. It is supported by ActionAid and funded by Comic Relief and the Tubney Charitable Trust.
