Dakota Blue Richards visits her old school as part of the BIG READ

Sophie and Dakota
Newsround Press Packer Sophie, 11, was lucky enough to meet Dakota Blue Richards, who played Lyra in the Golden Compass film.

Dakota went back to her old school in Brighton to read a special story that she had written for the BIG READ to highlight the importance of education for all.

There are 75 million children around the world who don't get the chance to go to school - the BIG READ is all about highlighting the importance of everyone having the chance to learn to read and write.

Here is Sophie's story:

"In the morning before assembly, the anticipation was immense!

I think the whole school felt it. Everybody was so excited about Dakota Blue Richards coming back to her old school for the BIG READ.

Education

In assembly Dakota Blue read us all the story she wrote Ed and the Stick Insect which is about how everybody should be able to go to school and learn.

Jo from the Global Campaign for Education showed us a DVD about children not being able to go to school, that's 75 million children around the world!

It also reminded us that in the year 2000, many country's leaders made a promise to get every child in education by the year 2015.

Downing Street

It was touching to see so many children wanting to go to school more than anything. It made me think about how we all just take school for granted.

When Dakota Blue arrived, we were all given cards, with colour-in pictures, of Number 10 Downing Street - where the Prime Minister lives.

So we all coloured them in and wrote inside the card why we think education is so important. "
